“Hi,” I answered the incoming call from Ledge.

“Hi.”

Neither of us spoke for a few seconds. Personally, I didn’t have much to say and I refused to burden him with such big feelings. I’d finished my session with Kirklynn and I knew it was why he was calling.

“How are you feeling, pretty lady?”

“A lot.”

“How can I make you feel better?”

“Just say nothing. I get so anxious driving and talking. I want to focus but I want you. So, please, just sit with me in silence. Just don’t… don’t hang up.”

“Pull over.”

“Huh?”

“Pull over.”

“Right now?”

“Yes.”

“I’ve barely left the parking lot.”

“Good. Turn around and park at the edge. I won’t hang up.”

“Ledge.”

“Just do it. I hear the tears in your voice, baby. I don’t want you driving like that. Sit still until you get yourself together.”

“Okay.”

He was right, always right. I turned around and pulled back into the parking lot. Once my vehicle stopped moving, the elapse of my emotions began. Like a baby in need, I wept. Kirklynn was so good at her job that she left me feeling whole and hopeless at the same time. Though I knew that I was making steps in the right direction, they were painful steps, nonetheless.

Every part of my body hurt as it quivered under the emotional stress it was under. The animalistic sounds that came from my body were as scary as they were relieving. As I was being ripped apart, I was simultaneously being pieced together. I couldn’t hate it altogether because I loved it too much.

In the midst of my utter undoing, I felt a slight breeze graze the side of my body. It wasn’t until I felt Ledge’s arms around me, rocking me from side to side that I realized what was happening. And, into his chest, I continued to peel back one painful layer after another.

As requested, he remained silent. Not once did he interfere or mumble a word. He was just… there. As he always was. As he’d promised he’d always be. He was far too good to me.

Overcome with emotions, I clung to him. He was my life’s support. In every way possible, I wanted and needed him. I wasn’t at all afraid to admit it. He owned my body, my mind, my heart, and my soul. I was his to have and we both knew it.

“I– I love you,” I stuttered through teary eyes and a rumbling chest.

“Marry me,” he responded, lifting my head and kissing me on my lips, “Marry me, then.”

“I am,” I reminded him. My body jerked continuously, emotions still rocking me back and forth.

“Today. Marry me,” he begged, holding my chin so that I could match his gaze.

“Today?”

“Yes, pretty lady. I love you so fucking much. I’m ready if you’re ready.”

“I am.”

“Then come roll with me.”

“What will we do about my truck?”

“Let me worry about that. You worry about nothing, aight?”

“Okay.”

“Just tell me one thing before you get out.”

“Anything,” I gasped.

“Do you want to do this or are you doing this because I asked?”

“Because I feel like it’s the perfect time to do it.
